Creative Arts

Classes vary from term to term. Please check current program schedule for activities available this season.
Art Adventures (Angela)
Explore 2-D and 3-D formats using a variety of materials and lots of imagination! In this fun workshop children explore their creativity through different activities – drawing, cutting, gluing, assembling, and decorating. Hands-on theme-based art projects will use a variety of materials including papier-mache, pipe cleaners, yarn, buttons, recyclables, cardboard, and others.
Beads-Mania (Angela)
Working with Perler beads students design and create colorful projects using original patterns. Fun for all ages!
Cartooning & Animation (Tati)
Children develop their story board, designing and drawing on paper and working out ideas that can transition to digital animation form. Students will bring their characters to life by creating flip-book animation and/or working with a special Animation App for the iPad. Characters and stories – along with music and audio recordings – will be compiled into a video project at the end of the school year. One of our most ambitious undertakings!
Comic Book Art (Daniel)
Students will learn how to write and draw their own comics like professional creators. The course will cover how to make iconic characters, structure comic panels, storyboard, write scripts, and more. By the end of the course young artists will have several of their own finished comic stories. All genres welcome!
Drawing & Painting (Angela)
In this workshop children learn basic fine arts concepts such as texture and light, and explore different painting techniques. Some days we will get messy, some days we will draw and paint neatly. Our goal is to teach children how to manipulate the medium so they can produce interesting visual work.
Filmmaking Workshop (Daniel)
In this workshop students work together to write, act, and direct their own short films. Throughout the process children learn the technical and creative skills needed to transform their ideas into finished works. We will explore the various roles on a film set, how to direct actors and crew,  as well as the basics of screenwriting, cinematography, and editing. By the end of the term our group should have at least one short film completed.
LegoImagineers
Children are invited to build creative lego projects in a relaxed environment. A perfect way to unwind after another busy school week. Fun for all ages!
Needlework & Design: The Art of Embroidery (Angela)
Learn the foundational embroidery skills such as how to thread the needle, how to start and end your threads, and how to use an embroidery hoop. Students will have the opportunity to explore design ideas and practice stitching with different kinds of threads. In addition to the fabric for the finished design, you will be provided with a “doodle cloth” for practicing your embroidery stitches.
Songwriting & Music Production (Jonathan)
This workshop will start with an introduction to music theory and then transition into production as children learn the ins and outs of GarageBand. This will involve recording instruments and voice, audio effects, and exploring other features. As the season progresses, students will be able to use and record virtual instruments (piano, guitar, drums, bass, violins, etc.), and explore a variety of musical styles. Collaboration will be encouraged, as children apply their newly learned skills to create original compositions. If you like music and technology this class is for you!

Have fun with Tech & Media!  In this workshop children will learn stop motion, rotoscoping and pixilation techniques to create short animated videos. Over the course of the term students will get to make characters with clay, legos and puppets, and send them on original adventures they get to write, shoot and edit.
