Visual Arts & Crafts

Classes vary from term to term. Please check current program schedule for activities available this semester.
Art Explorers (Angela)
Explore 2-D and 3-D formats using a variety of materials and lots of imagination! In this fun workshop children explore their creativity through different activities – drawing, cutting, gluing, assembling, and decorating. Hands-on theme-based art projects will use a variety of materials including papier-mache, pipe cleaners, yarn, buttons, recyclables, cardboard, and others.
Bead Crafts (Angela)
Working with Perler beads students design and create colorful projects using original patterns. Fun for all ages!
Cartooning Art (Tati)
Children develop their story board, designing and drawing on paper and working out ideas that can transition to digital animation form. Students will bring their characters to life by creating flip-book animation and/or working with a special Animation App for the iPad. Characters and stories – along with music and audio recordings – will be compiled into a video project at the end of the school year. One of our most ambitious undertakings!
Drawing & Painting (Angela)
In this workshop children learn basic fine arts concepts such as texture and light, and explore different painting techniques. Some days we will get messy, some days we will draw and paint neatly. Our goal is to teach children how to manipulate the medium so they can produce interesting visual work.
Fashion Design (Viktoria)
Gr. K-2. Delve into the exciting world of fashion! Drawing inspiration from magazines, our young apprentices will learn how to draw clothes, accessories, make-up and hair styles. Working with a variety of materials – clay, watercolors, beads, and yarn- children will explore different crafting techniques to develop visually appealing creations. At the end of the semester they will dress up a muppet with paper clothing.
Gr. 3-5. This workshop introduces students to the basics of fashion design — inspiration, concept, colors and shapes, the importance of drawing and sketching, the meaning of a mood board and a look-book. Using different crafting techniques, including sewing, embroidery, knitting, and a diverse set of materials – sequins, feathers, beads – students will design different looks from week to week, and prepare an actual piece of garment for presentation. Workshop will culminate with a small runway show of their favorite outfit.
