Science & Technology
Classes vary from term to term. Please check current program schedule for activities available this season.
Beginner Bots
Introduction to the fundamentals of robotics and programming using LEGO WeDo sets. This software provides a visual, icon-based programming environment, making it easy for beginners to learn basic concepts like sequencing, loops, and conditional statements. Students build models, attach motors and sensors, and then use a drag-and-drop programming interface to make their creations move and respond to their environment. Through hands-on activities and problem-solving challenges this class fosters an understanding of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Minecraft Engineering • Building Imaginary Worlds
Combining Minecraft block-building and 3D design students create fantastic imaginary worlds! Build, collaborate, and innovate. Minecraft provides a platform for creative design and architectural planning, encouraging problem-solving and spatial reasoning. In this class students develop skills in engineering, art, critical thinking, and presentation.
Roblox Game Design
Introduction to the exciting world of game creation using the Roblox platform and its dedicated development environment, Roblox Studio. Students design 3D worlds along with the original characters and avatars that inhabit them. They also develop engaging gameplay elements like obstacle courses (Obbys), racing tracks, rewards systems (collecting coins, sound effects, leaderboards), and explore program behaviors like chasing and pathfinding. Critical thinking, problem-solving and imagination a must!
Science Explorers
In this fun workshop young scientists explore a variety of topics through hands-on experiments, comparison and analysis. Each session features a different topic from chemistry, earth science, physics, or engineering, and finishes with an awesome take-home experiment to keep our student science-ing!
Scratch Coding
Design, code, animate, and play games in Scratch, MIT’s block-based programming language for kids. Build toys, games, cars, rockets, robots, castles, and circuits in Tinkercad, the 3D design tool where you can create anything you can imagine.
World of Drones
This class introduces students to the exciting world of drones, covering their design, operation and real-world applications. Through hands-on activities, like building and flying drones, children explore the science behind flight. They learn about drone components (like rotors and sensors), basic aerodynamics (lift, thrust) and how drones navigate using remote control or pre-programmed flight paths. This hands-on experience with drone technology encourages team work, critical thinking and problem-solving. A great class for budding engineers!
