DANCE PROGRAM<\/span><\/h5>\n
\u2022 Ballet & Jazz\u00a0<\/span>
\n Have fun while learning basic dance steps. Designed for our younger grades, this class introduces children to the basics of ballet and jazz. Students build coordination, flexibility and strength. Each session has standard opening and closing songs and movement sequences, set warm ups, and free improvisation. At the end of the season students present a rehearsed piece with original choreography.\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n
\u2022 Creative Dance\u00a0<\/span>
\nMove, groove, and improvise! A fun, imaginative movement class where students explore different genres, rhythms, storytelling, and expressive dance. Kids build coordination, confidence, and creativity through games, guided movement, and simple choreography. <\/span>A great introduction to bodily awareness and the art of self-expression!<\/span><\/h5>\n
\u2022 Flamenco Dance<\/span>
\nExplore the sounds, rhythms, footwork, palmas and choreography of this classical Spanish dance form. Through the study of Flamenco, students will acquire physical coordination, grace, discipline, and self-confidence. Discover the joy of dance and self-expression!<\/span><\/h5>\n
\u2022 Jazz\/HipHop<\/span>
\n Alvin Ailey teaching artists are experienced professionals who love to work with children and love what they do. This year we will offer again their popular Jazz\/Hip Hop workshop. Working together as a group, students develop an original choreography for a music theme of their choice and then present their specially rehearsed piece at the end of the semester – one of the highlights of our Showcases!<\/span><\/h5>\n

MUSIC PROGRAM \u2022 Students are grouped by age and skill level<\/span><\/h5>\n
\u2022 Bandwriting Workshop\u00a0<\/span>
\nLed by Stuart Klinger, founder of the Bandwriting Collective (2012), a program that empowers kids and fosters self-expression through music. In this workshop children are introduced to the basics of songwriting and receive coaching throughout the whole creative process. They learn<\/span> how to create melodies, rhythms, and lyrics that reflect their thoughts and feelings, and work collaboratively <\/span>to develop, arrange, produce, and perform original compositions. W<\/span>e build each song together, step by step, turning inspiration into a complete piece of music.\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n
\u2022 Guitar Group Lessons<\/span>
\nThrough a mix of repertoire, including classical, folk, children\u2019s songs, rock, and jazz, students will learn to play and enjoy music. Group work emphasizes listening with sensitivity and working together.\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n
\u2022 Percussion Ensemble\u00a0<\/span>
\nLed by one of Third Street Music School’s most experienced percussion teachers, this class will introduce children to a variety of percussion rhythms and styles. African, Brazilian, Caribbean, American\/New Orleans\/Second Line\/Blues, Rock & Roll, are all on the menu.<\/span> Join the fun!<\/span><\/h5>\n

THEATER PROGRAM<\/span><\/h5>\n
\u2022 Broadway Magic\u00a0<\/span>
\nLearn from the pros and experience the magic of Broadway! In this workshop, children are introduced to musical theater, a mix of storytelling, song, dance, and choreography. Combining the art of play and the structure of theater technique, students explore creativity while garnering stage skills and learning how to work as a group.<\/span><\/h5>\n
\u2022 Imagination & Make-Believe<\/span>
\n A fun and engaging way to explore make-believe.\u00a0<\/span>This workshop introduces students to the foundations of Improvisation such as character and world building. Using a series of theatre games, we will explore themes selected by our group and work together to create original plays and stories!\u00a0<\/span>Students will learn how to perform classic fairy tales (and maybe some of their own too) in traditional and also in unusual ways. Using sound, imagination and theatre games, children quickly learn why the drama kids always have so much fun.<\/span><\/h5>\n
\u2022 Improv & Comedy\u00a0<\/span>
\nExplore the art of improvisation and its importance in both theatrical and everyday uses. Class will consist of playful exercises designed to encourage students to think on their feet and unlock their creativity. Children learn how to create and write their own comic sketches.<\/span><\/h5>\n
\u2022 Musical Theater\u00a0<\/span>
\nIn this intensive workshop, students learn the basics of Broadway Theater by practicing scenes from famous Broadway musicals. In addition to acting, improv, song, and dance, students\u00a0will also focus on\u00a0specific aspects of theater production including sets, costumes and choreography.<\/span><\/h5>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
